Welcome to Sixth Grade!!
This year will be exciting and challenging for you!
You will be gaining knowledge, skills & responsibility needed for Jr. High
& beyond.
Here are some quick items that are of interest for
Sixth Graders:
·
Math will have a
lesson a day; tests every 10 lessons; vocabulary tests every Friday (matching)
·
Reading will
consist of the reading book, book group studies and independent reading.
·
Accelerated
Reading points needed are 10 per month. (Will be counted as 1 test grade in
Reading) (ex) 10 points=100%
·
Spelling-Pretest
on first day of the school week; if you get a 100% on pre-test, you DO NOT have
to do the spelling unit for the week!
·
Science will be
done on a “contract” basis. Students know a chapter ahead what they need to do
to earn their grade.
·
Band goes by the
schedule that Mrs. Garrard gives the students. Students not in band/not having
band on a certain day, will have the allotted band time daily to work on
homework, AR, ask Mrs. Schaal or Mr. Smith any questions on work.
·
Once a month
“CHARACTER COUNTS” by Jessica Wright will be presented in the classroom.

Many of you may know me from
previous years in the district. I taught
first grade for 11 years and Title I Math for 4 years. This is my first year in sixth grade, so we
will all be learning together! I have many great things planned and look
forward to having each student and meeting each parent! If at any time you feel
there is something that we need to discuss, please feel free to call me,
829-3263, email me: mschaal@stelmo.org, or send in a note.
I’ll be more than happy to meet with you at any free time that I have.
Here’s to another great year
at St. Elmo Elementary School!!
