Dear St. Elmo Elementary School Community, I am thrilled to introduce myself as your new principal for St. Elmo Elementary! I can hardly wait to meet each of you and become a part of this wonderful community. A bit about me: I was born and raised in Vandalia, IL. I live on a farm with my husband, Gordon, and my son, Bradyn. We share our home with 12 horses and enjoy spending our weekends working on our property, watching movies, and dining out. I have a passion for audiobooks, creativity, home décor, and most importantly, sharing laughter with friends and family. I am genuinely excited to kick off this school year and see all the students' bright faces. Our team has been working hard to prepare for the new year, and we are eager to start this journey together. I look forward to meeting you soon! Warm regards, Principal Moore

ST. ELMO FFA HONORED AT STATE CONVENTION Members of the St. Elmo FFA chapter attended the 96th annual Illinois State FFA Convention June 11-13 along with more than 5,000 other FFA members, advisors, and guests. With a 2024 theme of “United As One,” the three-day event annually recognizes achievements of Illinois FFA members, elects the major state officer team, and celebrates agriculture. During the convention, the following awards were presented to the St. Elmo FFA chapter: Illinois State FFA Degree: Kinley Carson, Anna Stine, Lane Stine, and Lowell Wilhour were conferred with State FFA Degrees by the Illinois Association for meeting all requirements including productive financial investments and earnings in a supervised agricultural experience and FFA participation, leadership, and academic excellence. The State FFA Degree is the highest achievement an FFA member can achieve in Illinois; less than 2% of members statewide earn this prestigious recognition. American FFA Degree: Dylan Dial, Sydney Stine, and Wyatt Stine were recognized for earning the highest degree achievable in the National FFA Organization. The 2024 American FFA Degrees will be officially conferred at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis in October and recognizes the most dedicated members in the country who demonstrated excellence with their supervised agricultural experience, provided outstanding leadership and community service, and earned scholastic achievement throughout their FFA career. Harvest For All Section Winner: The chapter was recognized for excellence in efforts to fight food insecurity in Illinois through dollars raised, pounds of food donated, and hours volunteered. Illinois Farm Bureau Young Leaders sponsors the Harvest For All awards. State Winner Land Use Career Development Event: The chapter was recognized for winning the state Land Use CDE, which requires team members to evaluate soil characteristics and composition while also calculating slope and soil erosion. Students at the convention were greeted with activities including a career fair featuring colleges and agribusinesses and an opportunity to engage in the history of Illinois’ capital city. The sessions featured addresses by National FFA Western Region Vice President Emily Gossett of New Mexico and from each of the retiring major state officers.
